Burn Them All
What is Burn Them All?
Burn Them All is a cooperative twin-stick shooter in which you shoot your way through hordes of devils and ghosts while carrying the Sacred Flame to burn the witch summoning them and free the village of her wicked influence.
Context
We were a team of 4 game designers, 3 game programmers and 6 game artists on this 2-week project.
My work on Burn Them All
I was a full time system developer on this project. While the two other programmers were on the controller and the ennemies, I made all the auxiliary systems without which the game wouldn’t work. I worked on the Light system, the glowy trinket the players pass to each other, as designed by the game designers. I also worked on all the buffs it gives to the players that are in the light, the pick up system, the generator and door systems and the audio system.
Experience feedback
This project was like a 2-week game jam and I had a blast working on it. I learnt a lot on the intricacies of system communication and code architecture. I did only things I knew how to do but it was a good thing : it gave me more time to focus on the things I was not used to do, such as code architecture or code review. My favorite part of the work I have done on this project was the communication between the design team and the programming team. I helped making the design more on point with what we wanted by being involved in it, as I love to be part of the game design team, even if it is only giving feedback.
